Oscars 2026: White Suits, Vintage Cartier and High-Tech Shades

Oscars 2026: White Suits, Vintage Cartier and High-Tech Shades

The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by the charismatic Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on the 15th of March, proved once again to be a landmark event for the film industry.

The night’s biggest narrative centered on cinematic excellence as Paul Thomas Anderson finally broke his "Oscar curse," securing Best Picture and Best Director for his masterpiece, One Battle After Another. This victory cemented the film’s status as a critically acclaimed blockbuster, dominating the 2026 awards season.

In the acting categories, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences celebrated historical milestones. Michael B. Jordan delivered a powerhouse performance in Sinners, earning his first Best Actor trophy, while Jessie Buckley made history as the first Irish woman to win Best Actress for Hamnet.

A significant breakthrough for diversity in film occurred when Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first Black woman to win Best Cinematography for her visual storytelling in Sinners.

The ceremony was packed with viral and surprise moments.

In a nod to the upcoming sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” (in theaters May 1), Anne Hathaway was joined by former Vogue editor Anna Wintour – the inspiration for Meryl Streep’s “Devil” fashion editor – to present the best costume and makeup and hairstyling Oscars with a guffaw-worthy reference to the first film, in which Wintour calls Hathaway “Emily,” just like Streep’s character did.

For only the seventh time in history, Kumail Nanjiani announced a tie for the Best Live Action Short Film. He made sure to make it clear that he was not joking when he said there were two winners. "It’s a tie. I’m not joking. It’s actually a tie" he said. "So everyone, calm down. We’re going to get through this!”. “The Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva” both walked away with golden statuettes for best live-action short film. With two different award speeches, pretty ironic that the short-film Oscar took twice as long as a normal celebration.

Red Carpet Fashion: Eyewear Trends at the 98th Academy Awards

Long before Conan O’Brien commenced his show, the real spectacle began during the red carpet arrivals, where this year’s celebrity style proved once again that luxury eyewear remains one of the most expressive finishing touches in modern formalwear.

Dark sunglasses, sleek designer frames, and high-tech opticals dominated the night, often paired with the evening's biggest trend: the crisp white suit. This juxtaposition added a confident, cinematic flair to the night’s menswear and couture tailoring, blending classic Hollywood glamour with a futuristic, tech-forward edge. From bold acetate silhouettes to minimalist metalwork, these red carpet accessories didn't just complement the outfits; they defined the aesthetic of the evening.

Below, we’ve curated the top 5 eyewear looks that conquered the 2026 Oscars red carpet.

Joel Edgerton: A Dapper Presence and a Notable Snub at the 2026 Oscars

Despite being labeled one of the year’s biggest Best Actor snubs, the Australian Joel Edgerton arrived at the Dolby Theatre representing the Best Picture nominee Train Dreams, a meditative frontier epic that earned high praise for its cinematic storytelling.

Amy Madigan: A Record-Breaking Win for Weapons

Amy Madigan, who took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her chilling performance in the supernatural thriller Weapons. At 75 years old, Madigan set a new Academy Awards record for the longest gap between nominations for an actress, winning exactly 40 years after her first nod for Twice in a Lifetime in 1986. Her portrayal of the malevolent, ginger-wigged Aunt Gladys became a cultural phenomenon during the 2026 awards season, even inspiring host Conan O’Brien’s opening skit, where he appeared in full "Gladys" cosplay to the delight of the Dolby Theatre audience.

On the red carpet, the Chicago-born star arrived in a statement-making look (courtesy of Dior). It was a suit featuring a striking blazer completely covered in black and gold feather paillettes creating a dappled effect. The final touch was a pair of Garrett Leight Clune X Sun combined with a set of orange lenses.

Spike Lee: A Purple Tribute and High-Tech Style at the 98th Academy Awards

Legendary filmmaker Spike Lee arrived on the red carpet accompanied by his wife Tonya Lewis Lee. His look blended deep personal history with cutting-edge cinematic flair. A perennial icon of celebrity style, Lee brought a vibrant splash of color to the event, donning a signature bright purple hat and bow tie, a recurring tribute to his late friend, Prince.

Beyond the bold colors, Spike Lee leaned heavily into the night’s luxury eyewear trend, but with a futuristic touch. He wore a pair of white Oakley Meta HSTN Prizm Smart Glasses, the same high-tech frames featured in his recent Super Bowl campaign. These smart glasses allowed the director to capture his own POV of the red carpet arrivals, blurring the lines between attendee and documentarian.

Memorable Mention: Pedro Pascal

One of the biggest talking points of the 98th Academy Awards was the shocking transformation of Pedro Pascal. The "Internet’s Daddy" arrived at the Dolby Theatre completely clean-shaven, ditching his signature mustache and salt-and-pepper beard for a look that fans claimed made him "age backwards."

His red carpet style was perfectly punctuated by a pair of refined, thin silver-rimmed glasses. The most intriguing detail lay in the hinges, which bore a striking resemblance to Cartier’s iconic C-Decor collection. While fashion enthusiasts and eagle-eyed critics speculated whether the frames were indeed an elusive vintage Cartier find, the accessory’s origin remained a delightfully unconfirmed mystery, adding an extra layer of "if you know, you know" sophistication to his look.
